Memories, wrapped in a bow

DENVER - Another itchy sweater? $50. A lifelong memory? Priceless.

Web sites like Excitations.com and cloud9living.com are urging gift givers to offer experiences - a flight to feel weightless, a chance to play pool with "Black Widow" Jeanette Lee or a day as a circus ringmaster - instead of "stuff" this holiday season.

Melinda Collingsworth of Apple Valley, Calif., said she and her husband used Cloud 9 Living to book an ATV tour, a night-vision Hummer tour and stargazing in Arizona as presents.

"It was just something new and different," Collingsworth said.

That rings true with Kim AuBuchon, co-founder and chief operating officer of Excitations.

"People have enough stuff," she said. "People are looking to have a life experience and create a life experience."
