Tampa women win 2-0, reach soccer quarterfinal

TAMPA - The Tampa women's soccer team defeated West Florida 2-0 Sunday to win the NCAA South Region final and advance to the quarterfinal for the first time.
The Spartans (17-2-1) set a school record for victories and won a school-record 34th straight home match.
UT's Shelby Kuni scored in the 78th minute, her school-record 25th of the season. Samantha Robinson's 17th assist set a Sunshine State Conference single-season record.
Jocelyn Charette scored unassisted to make it 2-0.
The Spartans host Carson-Newman or Tusculum on Saturday.
ACC: Elizabeth Guess scored in the 99th minute of the first overtime to give North Carolina a 2-1 victory over Florida State in the women's conference final at Cary, N.C. India Trotter scored for the Seminoles (14-3-4), who will wait for today's announcement of the NCAA Championship field of 64.
SEC: Kentucky defeated Florida 2-1 in the women's conference final in Orange Beach, Ala. The Gators (13-5-4, 7-1-3 SEC) scored on a 20-yard free kick by Stacy Bishop.
BASKETBALL: Sha Brooks scored a game-high 22 but the host Florida women lost 82-66 in an exhibition against Team Adidas/Premier Players. Florida was outrebounded 62-46, giving up 29 offensive rebounds. ... USF forward Jessica Dickson scored 16 in 15 minutes to lead six Bulls in double figures in a 101-54 exhibition win against the Miami Sun. ... Boston College suspended Sean Williams for two games and Akida McLain for nine for an unspecified violation of team rules. Both are junior forwards. ... David Hoskins had 29 points and 10 rebounds to lead host Kansas State to a 94-90 triple-overtime exhibition victory over Division II Washburn on Saturday night in Bob Huggins' first game as coach.
VOLLEYBALL: Host Florida State lost its third straight, 3-1 (30-27, 26-30, 25-30, 26-30) to Georgia Tech and dropped to 16-9 overall, 10-6 ACC. ... Tampa is hosting the NCAA South Region, Thursday through Saturday. The Spartans open against Wingate, and Eckerd faces Barry. Other matchups: Florida Gulf Coast vs. South Carolina-Aiken and Florida Southern vs. Lynn.
FIELD HOCKEY: Michelle Kasold's unassisted goal gave Wake Forest a 1-0 victory over Maryland in the ACC championship game in Chapel Hill, N.C.
