Fans of Tampa puzzlemeister and St. Petersburg Times Sudoku sage Merl Reagle have a treat in store Tuesday, when Wordplay comes out on DVD. The acclaimed documentary features Reagle, Will Shortz of the New York Times and other crossword legends, as well as fans like Bill Clinton ink and Jon Stewart (pencil).
Seems like it ought to be a bigger deal
Saturday is Veterans Day, and an especially somber one with the number of American troops killed in Iraq soaring toward 3,000. In Tampa, American Legion Post 152 holds its annual parade at 9 a.m. Saturday, starting at Hanley Road and Waters Avenue. In St. Petersburg, Tampa Bay Veterans for Peace will hold a memorial ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at Williams Park and show the Vietnam-era documentaries Winter Soldier and Sir! No Sir! at 7 p.m. at Studio@620 For information, go to www.thestudioat620.com.
New name, new old theater
On Friday, the restyled, renamed Asolo Repertory Theatre opens its 2006-07 season with Amadeus. The Florida State University/Asolo Conservatory troupe just opened The Parisian Woman in the freshly restored Historic Asolo Theatre in the Ringling Museum - a fabulous 18th century Italian jewel box worth the drive to Sarasota. No excuses: Make yours count
On Tuesday, don't let someone else decide for you. Vote. And whoever wins, there's good news: The ads stop.
One more candle, one more movie
Three actors with new films out this month also have birthdays this week. On Wednesday, Parker Posey (For Your Consideration) turns 38. On Friday, Brittany Murphy (Happy Feet) will be 29. And on Saturday, Demi Moore (Bobby) is 44.
