A man was shot following a domestic dispute Sunday night and is in stable condition after being airlifted to a Tampa trauma center, according to authorities. Daniel J. Begley Sr., 55, of 5600 N Mock Orange Drive, Beverly Hills, was found in the laundry room of his home about 10 p.m. He had been shot once in the upper torso, according to a sheriff's spokeswoman. Begley was in stable condition Monday evening at Tampa General Hospital, according to the Sheriff's Office. Although Citrus sheriff's detectives haven't released the identity of the woman who told them she shot Begley, they did release her age: 35. Records show that Begley is married to Kimberly Marie Begley, who is 35 years old. The couple has two young children, neighbors said. Daniel Begley is a retired police officer from New Britain, Conn., Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gail Tierney said. Begley works in the cafeteria at Pope John Paul II Catholic School in Homosassa, Tierney said. He has a concealed weapons permit, according to a state database. When deputies arrived at the scene Sunday night, the woman said she shot Begley after he imprisoned and battered her, Tierney said. The woman had superficial cuts and was treated at the scene, Tierney said. A neighbor, Michael Holup, said he frequently saw Daniel and Kimberly Begley playing with their children in the yard and often spoke with the couple. He said they seemed like "a nice, normal couple." He said he never heard any arguments. No charges have been filed, Tierney said. - In another shooting, the Sheriff's Office emergency response team was called to deal with a barricaded and armed suspect in Homosassa early Monday. Deputies say Albert William "Bill" Clutter, 56, locked himself in the bedroom of his home at 11319 W Pam Court, and threatened to harm himself and anyone who came near him. Tierney said that by the time the response team arrived at 5 a.m., Clutter had fired a shot, but no one was hit. The officers talked to Clutter, who surrendered without incident about 6 a.m. He was taken to a mental facility in Brooksville for observation under the state's Baker Act, Tierney said. No criminal charges were filed, she said. Jorge Sanchez can be reached at sanchez@sptimes.com or 352860-7313 or toll-free at 1-800-333-7505 ext. 7313.
