Anthony Oliver was making waves at both Spring Hill bowling centers in a two-day stretch with 700 series in the Friday Early Mariners League at Mariner Lanes and the Joni Classic League at Spring Hill Lanes.

While substituting in Joni Classic last Thursday, Oliver tossed a 299 game on his way to a 709 series. His other two games were a 218 and 192 to accompany his third U.S. Bowling Congress achievement score of 2006.

At his regular stop in the Friday Early Mariners, Oliver topped his series from the evening before by pitching a three-game pin total of 749. His high scratch game for the league was a 256.

SPRING HILL HIGHS: Last week during the Kevin's Pro Shop League at Spring Hill, there were three 700 series, including the high series for the county last week.

Jay Olsen's 758 series took top honors on the strength of individual games scores of 277, 258 and 223. Scott Darkes also had a top-notch performance with a 738 series. Darkes contributed scratch games of 265, 237 and 236. The third 700 of the night came from Joe Pereira and his 703 (253, 247, 203).

The Wednesday Night Mixers League was led by Todd Brower last week. He had the second-best overall series of the week in the county with a 750 behind games of 269, 266 and 215.

MAVERICK 280: Richard Jirsa, a regular in the Monday Mavericks League at Mariner, came up with the center's high scratch game for the week with his 280 score last week.

Jirsa has two perfect games to his record in the past, but the last on Nov. 18, 2002, during the same Monday Mavericks League. In that same league last season, the only sanctioned league Jirsa has competed in over the past seven years, he averaged a 197.

JUNIOR GOLD: Manny Franco threw the high game in the Saturday Junior Scratch Gold League at Spring Hill by more than 30 pins.

Franco's 278 game surpassed Eric Millican's 246 for first place on the day. His series of 614 was fourth though. Ryan Elder (687), Chris Polizzi (632) and Brandon Curley (632) rounded out the top three.

UPCOMING TOURNEYS: Louie's Lanes in Brooksville is scheduled to host two major county tournaments for the first time since coming under new ownership a little over a year ago.

On Nov. 12, the center will hold the annual Hernando County Youth/Adult Tournament. The sanctioned tournament will feature doubles teams with 2005-06 USBC yearbook averages based on at least 21 games. The dual start times will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

On Nov. 19, the ninth annual Hernando County USBC Women's Bowling Association Doubles Tournament will be at Louie's.

The handicap for each team will be based on 100 percent of 200 from the participants 2005-06 USBC yearbook averages. The entry fees are $32 per team and are due before Nov. 11. The event will begin at 1 p.m. Prize fund moneys are returned 100 percent on a ratio of 1 in 6.
