Times correspondent to be guest speaker at woman's club

Journalist Helena Bachmann Milligan will be the guest speaker at the Indian Shores Women's Club meeting Thursday.

Milligan, a correspondent for Time magazine, splits her time between her homes in Bradenton and Geneva, Switzerland. Milligan will discuss Teeth in a Pickle Jar, her novel about a middle-aged woman finding love on the Internet. The talk is free and open to the public.

Flag that flew in Iraq to be raised in ceremony

The town of Indian Shores and the Indian Shores Women's Club will co-host a Veterans Day ceremony at Estelle Harper Park behind Town Hall, 19305 Gulf Blvd. An American flag that flew over the headquarters of the 4th Infantry Division, stationed near Baghdad, will be raised during the ceremony, accompanied by a full honor guard and a 21-gun salute. U.S. Rep. Bill Young will be the featured speaker.

MADEIRA BEACH

Veterans Day activities include boat parade

The 10th annual Veterans Boat Parade will be held Saturday, sponsored by the cities of Madeira Beach and Treasure Island with American Legion Post 273 and Elk's Lodge 1912. Opening ceremonies will begin at the American Legion Post. The boat parade route begins north of the Tom Stuart Causeway and proceeds south to the Treasure Island Causeway.
