Woman's 2006-07 preview

USF
Coach: Jose Fernandez (79-95, seventh season at USF).
Last season: 19-12 (9-7 in Big East, tied for sixth). Lost 67-65 to Southern Cal in first round of NCAA Tournament.
Notable: Jessica Dickson was named Big East preseason player of the year after leading the nation in scoring for much of last season. A new class of recruits brings depth and size to the frontcourt, led by the 6-5 Stephanie Sarosi and 6-2 Porche Grant, who will complement Nalini Miller in the post. Look out for tough nonconference games against Vanderbilt, LSU and Michigan State.

Coach: Carolyn Peck (63-54, fifth season; 120-65 in six seasons).
Last season: 21-9 (8-6 SEC, tied fifth). Lost 83-59 to New Mexico in NCAA first round.
Notable: This is the first season since Peck's arrival that every player on the roster is one she signed. The Gators lost four seniors from last year's starting lineup and will rely heavily on guard Sha Brooks, who was last season's freshman of the year. She and junior Depree Bowden are the only players with more than one year of experience. The Gators lack size (only two players are taller than 6 feet), so Peck said they'll compensate with speed and athleticism.

Florida State
Coach: Sue Semrau (136-128, 10th year).
Last season: 20-10 (10-4,fourth in the ACC). Lost to Stanford, 88-70, in the NCAA Tournament second round.
Notable: Wing guard Alicia Gladden (13.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg), the team's top scorer and rebounder, is the lone senior and lone holdover from a predominately four-guard lineup that carried the Seminoles to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. ... Center Britany Miller (10.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg) has trimmed down by more than 25 pounds and should be able to play far more minutes far more efficiently.
