TAMPA - Mom. The title alone implies a laundry list of jobs; chauffeur, cook, not to mention washing an occasional load of dirty clothes. But comedy? "Daily occurrences, when you say them out loud, can just be ridiculously funny," said Teri McGreevy of Carrollwood, a mother of two teenaged sons. McGreevy was one of nine bay area moms doing stand-up comedy Thursday at the Tampa Improv as part of Nick at Nite's Funniest Mom in America contest. The competition, now in its third season, is hosting 32 tryouts around the county throughout November. The national winner gets a $50,000 grand prize. "These moms, who are so busy with the responsibilities of raising kids and taking care of the house, are funny people too," the show's producer Jeff Singer said. Nancy Francis, a mother and grandmother from Fort Myers, started performing after retiring three years ago from owning a real estate title company. Helen Vasiloudes, 39, of West Chase said with four kids, "you've got to have a sense of humor." With a 26-year-old daughter, Charlotte "Sistuh C" Grant of Riverview was "chilling" Thursday. "I'm going to win," said Grant, a social worker with Hillsborough County schools. Moms like Grant, who think they're the funniest in America have until December 14 to enter the contest at national open calls, by mail or online. Visit tvland.com/nickatnite for details. The show begins airing April 3 on Nick at Nite. Amber Mobley can be reached at amobley@sptimes.com or at 813 269-5311.
