Apollo Beach: The County Commission on Oct. 24 allowed property owners Charles Mixon and Nancy Hubbell to modify planned development zoning on a 40,000-square-foot office building and surrounding property, which lies south of Leisey Road and east of U.S. 41 on 11 acres.
The owners sought to expand their commercial uses and eliminate residential. County commissioners agreed by a 6-1 vote. Commissioner Ronda Storms dissented without comment. PETITION 06-1961
Plant City: Commissioners approved a request by Mosaic Fertilizer for mining activities at its Hopewell mine.
The decision involved Tampa Bay Water's agreement to use more stringent standards in monitoring Mosaic's water quality, and to monitor ground water at the plant for a year beyond its original agreement.
Commissioners agreed earlier this year to allow Mosaic to expand its Hopewell operation, on State Road 39 a mile south of State Road 60, a move that was delayed over concerns about ground water quality. PETITION 05-1370
Palm River: Property owners want to rezone 6 acres in a neighborhood at the northeast corner of 66th Street and 24th Avenue S from agricultural to residential.
If county commissioners grant their request, David and Herminia Posada could build up to 25 houses on the property.
The County Commission in July remanded the petition to a zoning hearing master. The case goes back to commissioners on Nov. 14. PETITION 06-1048
