BRANDON - A Brandon couple were hospitalized late Friday after two men forced their way into their suburban home and pistol-whipped them, a sheriff's spokesman said. Two daughters, ages 8 and 11, were home at the time of the 9 p.m. break-in at 1511 Kirtley Drive, but the girls were unharmed, spokesman J.D. Callaway said. The two men burst their way through the door of the home, Callaway said. One was wearing a mask. "We don't know why," Callaway said. Callaway said the couple's injuries were not life-threatening. The husband and wife were taken to Tampa General Hospital. It was not immediately clear what the men were after or whether they stole anything, Callaway said. But investigators weren't without leads. A short time after arriving at the scene, deputies arrested one suspects, who was hiding about a block from the home, Callaway said, though he declined to release the individual's name. Deputies also recovered two firearms they believe may have been used in the crime. Investigators were not yet identifying the victims because they were still seeking another suspect, described only as an adult male. Deputies were expected to canvass the neighborhood as they investigated the break-in.
