The Gamecocks (5-4, 3-4 SEC) are expected to start Blake Mitchell (48-of-76, 535 yards, two touchdowns) but could alternate him with Syvelle Newton (95-of-162, 1,316 yards, 12 touchdowns). Mitchell is mostly a drop-back passer while Newton also is a threat to run. Then there's Sidney Rice, who has nine career 100-yard games and at 6 feet 4 will challenge 5-10 corners Ryan Smith and Reggie Lewis. Also expected to see time is senior cornerback Jermaine McCollum, who enters with one career start and needs "the game of his life for us," Gators coach Urban Meyer said. Florida (8-1, 6-1) needs to get its struggling running game, averaging 149.8 yards, going. It has secured the SEC East but must win to stay in the national title picture. In four games against ranked teams, the Gamecocks have lost three by a touchdown or less. But all four came at home.
