U.N. official, opposition leader meet

Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner held under house arrest in Myanmar, left her home for the first time since May on Saturday to meet with a U.N. diplomat, telling the official she needed more frequent medical attention. Suu Kyi made the comments to U.N. Undersecretary-General for Political Affairs Ibrahim Gambari, according to a U.N. statement. On his trip, he is pressing the government to adopt human rights and political reforms.

Pope sets meeting with muslim cleric

Pope Benedict XVI's trip to Turkey will include a meeting with a Muslim cleric who was one of the first to denounce the pope for his remarks on Islam and violence in September, the Vatican said Saturday. The trip is set for Nov. 28-Dec. 1. The pope will meet with Turkey's president for religious affairs, Ali Bardakoglu, upon his arrival.
