Ed Duer, one of the premier bowlers in the county for many years, continued his model of consistency during the Hammer Classic League at Hudson Bowl on Oct. 26.

In his third such effort of 2006, Duer tossed an 802. The 800 series, a scoring benchmark used by bowlers to evaluate true ability, was the 26th of his career. A regular competitor in Senior Bowling Association events, Duer averaged a 224 in Hammer Classic last season, and he competes in leagues at Hudson, Lane Glo Lanes North and Lane Glo Lanes.

He led what was a fantastic group of scores at Hudson three weeks ago.

That same night during Hammer Classic, Mike Smith Jr. and Dan Spurlock each opened eyes with their performances.

Smith accomplished the league's second 800 of the evening by accumulating a three-game pin total of 801 with a 299 high game.

Spurlock tossed his fifth career perfect game that night. The 300 also was Spurlock's second perfect game in as many months in the 2006-07 season.

This year is shaping up to be the avid bowler's best to date after averaging a 221 in Hammer Classic last season. Spurlock competes exclusively at Hudson.

HAMMER HI ROLLER: Doug Evans is putting together a terrific first half in Hudson's Hammer Hi Rollers League. While continuing to lead the league with a 241 average, Evans impressed with his best night to date Oct. 23. He shot a 823 with games of 254, 279 and 290.

In his first season competing in Pasco County, Evans has been on top of his game. He has had three U.S. Bowling Congress scores with the 800, 11 strikes in a row from two Mondays ago and the perfect game he shot in Hudson's 8-Game Scratch Marathon Tournament in August.

LANE GLO 299: On Nov. 3, Norberto Rosado accomplished his first USBC achievement by tossing a 299 during the Friday Night Fun Lovers Mixed League at Lane Glo Lanes in New Port Richey.

Rosado, a longtime county competitor, came within nine pins of knocking out two achievements at once with his 791 scratch series. The other two games he bowled were 247 and a 245.

The Fun Lovers league is the only sanctioned league Rosado competes in, and last season, he averaged 196 over 96 games in that same league.

UPCOMING TOURNEY: Hudson is holding its 15th annual Scratch Match Game Tournament. The event, held Nov. 23, is expected to attract a full house to the 26-lane center. Organized in bracket-style, the entry fee per bowler is $50.

Currently, 19 entries are pre-registered. $34 of the entry fee goes to the prize fund that will be returned to the winners 100 percent.
