Rocker to sing, help save language of the old sod

Denny Doherty, an original member of the Mamas and the Papas, will be in Clearwater on Saturday to raise money so some rowers can paddle a traditional Irish boat known as a naomhog from Florida to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, and then to Ireland to promote the restoration of the Gaelic language. Doherty is a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The concert is 7 p.m. Saturday at St. Brendan Catholic Church, 245 Dory Passage, Clearwater. The 8-foot male manatee had some form of illness, said a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
