Some window frame care

Don't insert nails or screws in your window frames to hold up holiday decorations or lights. You could puncture the waterproof channel of the frame or compromise its energy efficiency. More tips from window manufacturer Simonton: Don't wash with a high-pressure spray, which could crack the window or destroy the caulk. Try Fantastik cleaner for bubble gum, felt-tip pens or lipstick on vinyl window and door frames. For tar, pencil or oil marks, use Soft Scrub. Crayons? Try Lestoil.

Start dark with paint chip

Can't pick a paint color? The November issue of This Old House magazine offers this tip: Find a paint strip on which you can live with the darkest-color chip. Then you'll know you like the colors at the middle and top of the range. Nervous about a color? Go one step lighter.

Staffing the malls

Why wait for the buyers to come to you? Go where they are. Borrowing a leaf from the books of resale real estate agents, who have had mall kiosks for years, Pulte Homes is staffing kiosks at the Westfield malls at Brandon, Citrus Park and Countryside. Plasma-screen TVs will show homes and provide information about Pulte, and agents will discuss financing options. Pulte builds in Pinellas, Pasco, Hillsborough, Manatee and Hernando counties.
