TALLAHASSEE - Incoming Republican Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio named his leadership team Friday, a list that includes two women.

Marty Bowen of Winter Haven will serve as majority leader, the first Republican woman to hold that role. Ellyn Bogdanoff of Fort Lauderdale will be majority whip.

Dennis Baxley of Ocala will serve as speaker pro tempore. Adam Hasner of Boca Raton will be deputy majority leader.

Rubio, of Miami, said in a statement that all four bring a mix of experience and leadership qualities "as diverse as the people they represent."

Tampa Bay loses representation in the transition.

Leslie Waters of Seminole had served as speaker pro tempore under Allan Bense of Panama City. Waters had to give up her seat due to term limits.

But the Tampa Bay region still could retain some clout when Rubio names committee chairs. He plans to do so by Dec. 15.

Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, House minority leader, said he looks forward with working with Rubio and his team.

"We'll probably disagree on policy and ideas but I don't think we'll have the personal tension that can be counterproductive," Gelber said.
