McClinton lifts Hurricanes

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Jack McClinton scored 17 on 5-for-11 shooting to lead Miami to a 74-69 victory over Evansville on Friday in the America's Youth Classic opener.

McClinton hit three 3-pointers and was 4-for-6 from the free-throw line for the Hurricanes (3-0). Anthony King grabbed 15 rebounds and James Dews had four steals in 14 minutes for Miami, which had 26 second-chance points. Matt Webster, who scored a game-high 26, was 10-for-18 to lead the Purple Aces.

McClinton's 3-pointer with 6:27 remaining gave Miami its first lead as the Hurricanes outrebounded Evansville 45-29.

MIAMI (OHIO) 52, FAMU 33: Tim Pollitz scored 16 for the host RedHawks as the Rattlers (1-2) shot 12-for-48 overall. FAMU was led by Lamar Twitty's eight points.

OLD DOMINION 70, FAU 55: Arnaud Dahi scored 20 to overcome 17 from Paul Graham as the Owls fell to 0-3.

TAMPA 76, GOLDEY-BEACOM 70: Chris King scored 21 and the host Spartans improved to 2-0.

ECKERD 90, WEST GEORGIA 87: The Tritons held on at the Tampa Classic to win the season opener.

FIU 74, ALCORN STATE 61: The Panthers improved to 1-2 behind 22 points from Johwen Villegas.
