Man who hit cruiser charged with DUI

Deputies say a 25-year-old Tampa man drove drunk Thursday night and rammed head-on into a Hillsborough sheriff's patrol car. Jon Mark Burke, 25, of 1702 E Nome St. faces charges of driving under the influence with serious bodily injury, driving with a suspended license, petty theft and violating his probation, jail records show. Investigators say Burke drove the wrong direction in the westbound lane of Hillsborough Avenue just west of Orient Road and crashed head-on into Deputy Jason Haynes' patrol car at 11:28 p.m. Deputies took a sample of Burke's blood, but the results were not yet available Friday. He suffered minor injures, deputies say. He was booked into the Hillsborough County jail Friday morning, where he was held without bail, jail records show. Haynes suffered several injuries, including a broken right leg, said sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter. He was taken to Tampa General Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, she said. Burke has been arrested seven times by Hillsborough County authorities, jail records show. His most recent arrest came June 22, when he was accused of failing to appear in court and violating his probation for DUI. John Wayne Shouse, 64, "suffered a medical episode" about 1:40 p.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said. He was pronounced dead at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center. Christina Collins, 22, Cameron Collins, 18, and Sean Michael Whitaker, 26, are all suspected of entering an elderly woman's home on Nov. 19 under false pretenses, then stealing her credit cards, police said. Christina Collins is suspected of using the stolen cards to purchase items worth more than $1,000, police said. Christina Collins is charged with two counts of grand theft, two counts of burglary, two counts of scheming to defraud and driving with a suspended license. Her bail is set at $10,000. Whitaker faces one count of grand theft and two counts of scheming to defraud. Cameron Collins is charged with one count of scheming to defraud. Whitaker was held Friday on $5,000 bail, and Cameron Collins' bail was set at $1,000.
