Charter school can add more classrooms

LUTZ: The Learning Gate Community School, a charter elementary and middle school that focuses on environmental studies, has won county approval to add extra classrooms and expand its enrollment to 500 students.

Hearing officer Harold Youmans disagreed with a neighbor who complained that any growth at the school on Hanna Road would create traffic problems.

He included 20 conditions in granting the permit. The one the school opposed the most - widening Hanna Road - was not among them. However, the school might have to add turn lanes to the road, subject to a concurrency review.

The following petitions were heard at a land use hearing meeting Nov. 17:

CARROLLWOOD: Landowner Keith Feltner is asking for a variance in setbacks so he can build a 3,380-square-foot car wash at 7510 N Dale Mabry Highway. It would be a self-serve car wash and would include a covered parking lot to cover employees while they are detailing cars.

CARROLLWOOD: Playtime Learning Academy owners Julie Banks and Emily Brushwood are requesting a special use permit to allow for 170 children at their day care center, 4701 Ehrlich Road.

The center can currently allow 99 children at the day care.

TOWN 'N COUNTRY: Property owners CAY Racetrack and GAN Racetrack are asking permission for an alcoholic beverage permit at a proposed restaurant at Race Track and Nine Eagle roads.

A special use permit is needed because the planned restaurant is less than 150 feet from residentially zoned property.

The restaurant will have 7,500 square feet inside and a 3,500-square-foot patio.
