Father faces marijuana charges, too

The father of a 2-year-old boy who died this weekend from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound now faces drug charges.

Detectives found the drugs "in plain view" while executing a search warrant in Timothy Jerome Addison's home at 9408 N 15th St., said police spokesman Larry McKinnon. Police had arrested Addison on Sunday on charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Jail records list Addison's additional charges as possession of marijuana with intent to sell and possession of marijuana, both third-degree felonies. Addison, 37, was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Addison told detectives that he and his son, Timberlan, were playing Sunday about 10:30 a.m. on a couch, where Addison said he had forgotten he hid a 9mm handgun in the cushions. The boy found the gun and it fired once, fatally wounding him in the chest, police said.

Addison told police he had a safe in the home that contained other firearms. McKinnon said Monday that detectives had possession of the safe and would open it as part of their investigation.

Detectives also planned to spend Monday reviewing evidence in the case with the State Attorney's Office to determine whether additional charges will come, which could include culpable negligence.

Timberlan's mother, 23-year-old Jacqualine Wilson, has said she doesn't blame Addison for the tragic accident.
