Drama and music for a lively winter's night

Gorilla Theatre presents a double bill called "A Gorilla Winter." One half is Thornton Wilder's The Long Christmas Dinner, which covers 90 years of holiday gatherings. A precursor to Wilder's Our Town, the 1931 play chronicles four generations of the Bayard family. Directed by Nancy Cole, the cast includes, clockwise from left, Charles Wilcox, Soolaf Rasheid, Greg Morgan and Suzy DeVore. The other half of the program is December Songs, featuring soprano Lynne Locher in a song cycle by Broadway composer Maury Yeston that, he says, "tells a story of love lost, of the struggle to move on and of the resilience of the human spirit." Yeston, whose shows include Titanic, Nine and Grand Hotel, was inspired by Schubert's Winterreise. Jason Tucker is the musical director. "A Gorilla Winter" opens tonight at 7 and runs through Dec. 17. $15-$25; student rush tickets are $10 30 minutes before curtain. (813) 879-2914; www.gorillatheatre.com.
