 . . . Bowl of orange.

Winter calls for soup , even in Florida, and the most festive is a warm orange one. Soups of pureed carrot, butternut squash or pumpkin are my favorite. Not meaty, yet rich and brimming with holiday aromas of cinnamon, clove, ginger and nutmeg. When orange is the color du jour it makes my day. Chris Sherman, Times food critic
