Visiting guest pianist to teach and perform

Gilbert Kalish is a pianist's pianist. Other pianists will come out of the woodwork to hear him play. Kalish, longtime pianist with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, is this year's Kotler Lecture Series guest artist at the University of South Florida's College of Visual and Performing arts. Today, from 10 a.m. to noon, he presents a solo and chamber master class at USF's recital hall on the Tampa campus; the class is free and open to the public. On Friday, he will give a recital that includes Thirteen Ways of Looking at the Goldberg, which features works by 12 modern composers in response to Bach's Goldberg Variations. Kalish will also play Schubert's B-flat Major Sonata. Friday's concert is at 8 p.m. in the recital hall. $4, $8. (813) 974-4820.
