Bowden won't run from disappointing season
This has obviously been one of the more difficult seasons Bobby Bowden has had in his 31 at Florida State.

TALLAHASSEE - This has obviously been one of the more difficult seasons Bobby Bowden has had in his 31 at Florida State.
The Seminoles 6-6 will finish below .500 for the first time since 1976, Bowden's first year here, if they don't beat UCLA (7-5) in the Dec. 27 Emerald Bowl. The Bruins rebounded from a four-loss skid to end the season with wins against Oregon State, Arizona State and Southern California.
But those thinking Bowden might walk away simply don't know the man. Consider that as a high school senior, Bowden chose a powerful and telling quote from Alfred Lord Tennyson's classic poem Ulysses for his yearbook entry under the heading, Ambition:
"To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
Not a bad motto for a coach, huh?
"I think so; I really do," Bowden said.
If you wanted to see the College Football Hall of Fame and the National Football Foundation awards dinner - which featured Bowden and former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Charlie Ward's induction and Bowden receiving the NFF's most prestigious honor, the Gold Medal - you can see it on tape delay at 6 p.m. Saturday. But only if you get the NFL Network.
More firsts for soccer
Senior forwards India Trotter and Kelly Rowland, who led the women's team to the national semifinals, were named first-team All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. That's the first time a Seminole has made the first team. Junior midfielder/forward Selin Kuralay was named to the second team. In the program's first 11 years, it had a total of two players make a NSCAA All-America team.
