Glamor that tops off an 'after 5' look

I need a pattern for a simple "after 5" top that will be interchangeable with skirts and pants. During the holidays I will be going to several functions that call for something that is a little more glamorous than a daytime dress.

I have selected Kwik-Sew 3474, sizes extra small to extra large. This top can be worn with skirts or pants. The fabric dictates how casual or dressy it will be. It can go from daytime to "after 5" with your choice of fabric. One word of caution: A wrap style is not recommended if you are extra large in the bust; the front would have a tendency to tap at the bustline.

Updating the blazer

I have noticed that my classic-style blazer jackets still look the same as current ones, except for the buttons. Years ago, an expensive blazer had four buttons on each sleeve. Today I notice the buttons are often large, and there are only one or two. Is this a new embellishment idea?

The style of the classic blazer has changed in many ways. Yes, you can still find the very tailored, menswear-style blazers with four buttons on the sleeves. If you love this kind of jacket, simply pick up on the newer details. You can use matching buttons in the same size and use only one or two on each sleeve. If you change the number, you will usually use only one or two in a larger size. Choose elegant buttons instead of the classic four-hole bone buttons.

This week's winner

"I save Tic Tac containers for straight pins, needles, small buttons, snaps and hook and eyes. It's so easy to shake them out of the container's small opening."
