TAMPA — A former Lakeland police officer and firefighter who lives in Tampa had a sexual relationship with a teen girl, had her recruit her friends to have sex while he watched, deputies say.

David Lee Bishop, 41, of 5452 Pentail Circle performed sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl, then encouraged the girl and four of her female friends to perform sex acts while he watched from a closet, according to the Hillsborough Sheriff’s Office.

On Nov. 30, one of the girls told her mother of the abuse, deputies say. Bishop was arrested on 12 counts, including sexual battery, lewd or lascivious battery, lewd or lascivious conduct and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, jail records show.

Bishop is a former Lakeland firefighter and police officer, according to Lakeland police spokesman Jack Gillen.

Bishop worked as a firefighter from July 1987 to February 1991, records show. He worked as a police officer from August 1991 to March 1993, when he was fired, Gillen said. He did not know why Bishop was fired.

According to jail records, Bishop now works as an organ procurer for the Lifelink Foundation, a non-profit organization for organ donation.

He was held at the Orient Road Jail on Thursday morning without bail.
