Largo's Jensen a star on state tour

DADE CITY - Largo High's Evan Jensen, 17, shot a tournament-best girls score of 4-under 68 en route to a big win at 142 in a Florida Junior Tour event at Lake Jovita Country Club last weekend.

Jensen's win adds to her two titles last season, making her the 2005-06 FJT girls 16-18 points champion. Last year, Jensen won the 13-15 girls title.

Ryan Ashburn of Seminole finished fourth with rounds of 75-80-155 followed by Palm Harbor's Brienna Heinzler, 82-83--165.

Blayne Barber of Lake City won the boys 16-18 division and captured his second FJT title this season (6-under 138).

Preston Knox of Dunedin finished at 151 (75-76), followed by Michael Baskovich (76-78--154) of Clearwater and Travis Ralph (75-81-156) of Redington Beach.

St. Petersburg's M.J. Maguire tied for seventh in a concurrent FJT event at Metro West in Orlando last weekend. In the boys 13-15 division, Maguire shot 72-74-146, six strokes off the pace set by winner Troy Byun of Lake City.

Devin Hernandez of Seminole posted 78-70-148 followed by Justin Foster of Dunedin at 73-79-152.

Ashburn, who won her previous FJT event, settled for a three-way tie for fourth at Orlando, carding 75-80-155, eight strokes behind winner Jessica Negron of Ocala in the girls 13-15 division.
