INVERNESS - School superintendent Sandra "Sam" Himmel is expected to announce the new executive director of business services at a School Board meeting today.

Himmel did not release the person's name Monday. She was still making reference checks late in the afternoon, district administrator Mike Mullen said.

Sam Hurst, who serves as the executive director of business services now, is retiring in February. The announcement of his replacement will cap a seven-month search that began in May.

Finding his replacement has been difficult. The district extended the deadline for applications three times. The job, which brings together all of the district's monetary operations, drew 10 applicants in November. The director of business services oversees the director of food services, the supervisor of purchasing and the internal auditor.
