LAND O'LAKES - Monday night's 1-1 tie between Land O'Lakes and Mitchell puts both teams in a predicament.

The Gators (8-4-1) play River Ridge on Wednesday, and the Mustangs (8-3-3) play the Royal Knights on Friday. After Monday's game, both coaches echoed each other's sentiments: Those are now "must-win" games.

"It really is for us," Mitchell coach Karl Kukec said. "I think that the winner of all these games will be the (Sunshine Athletic Conference) champ, but bottom line, it's a must-win for us."

Added Gators coach Vicky King: "I guess Wednesday is now must-win for us, too."

Land O'Lakes scored five minutes into the game. Junior Amanda Goble hit an unassisted 30-yard shot past a diving Laura Seletos, who had six saves.

"It was a great shot," Kukec said. "We all knew she could take shots like that."

Those dead ball shots from Goble, King said, are how the Gators get on the board.

"Savannah Gorman is our leading scorer but Goble is our point maker," King said. "And while (Goble) may not be scoring the goals, she definitely makes them happen."

Mitchell tied it in the second half when Maria Russo hit freshman Shelby Wright on a through ball, and Wright tapped it past goalkeeper Sarah Saavedra, who had 12 saves.

"I think we dominated the second half," Kukec said. "We just couldn't convert."

King felt like her team lost control in the second half.

"I guess a point is a point; better than no point," King said. "But we didn't possess the ball at all in the second half. They got their one goal, and luckily that's all we gave up."
