Antiwar events set to resume Saturday

The NatureCoast Coalition for Peace and Justice is reactivating its antiwar activities. A demonstration against the war in Iraq is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the northeast corner of Mariner and Cortez boulevards. The coalition also plans to conduct public town hall meetings in Hernando, Citrus, Marion and Sumter counties, starting in late January. For information, call Brian Moore at 686-9936. Blood drives use holiday incentives As blood donations dwindle during the holiday season, LifeSouth Community Blood Center hopes to increase donations with a weeklong Donor Holiday Party blood drive Monday through Dec. 24 at the center, 12395 Cortez Blvd. Cookies and eggnog will be served. Hot dogs will be served on Wednesday, with free gift wrapping from noon to 3 p.m. (limit two items). Donors can enter to win a HoneyBaked Ham, and everyone will receive a gift item and a cholesterol screening. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. To donate, you must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and show a valid photo ID. For information, call 596-2002. Plant nursery will close for holidays The Spring Hill Garden Club's plant nursery will be closed for the holidays, starting Dec. 23. The nursery, at 1489 Parker Ave., will reopen Jan. 8, and will be open 9 a.m. to noon Mondays and Saturdays. The adjacent Nature Coast Botanical Gardens will remain open during the holiday season from dawn to dusk daily. For information, call 683-9933.
