DADE CITY - Bud Hodgens, 66, after coaching football as an assistant and head coach for more than 40 years, is among those vying for the head coaching position at Pasco, according to applications filed at the school.
Hodgens, who was Robinson's coach for 10 years until he stepped down in 2002, lives near Pasco, the school at which he also applied for a coaching job in 2003.
"He's like a cat, he keeps finding new lives," said Mike DePue, Robinson's current coach, who took over for Hodgens after coaching under him for more than 10 years. "Seriously, I think he would be a great fit for Pasco. He lives right near there, and hey, he can still get it done.
"Sure, he may be 66, but he looks 60 and acts like he's 25. He still has tons of energy."
Hodgens, who could not be reached for comment, is up for the job vacated by Dale Caparaso, who after four years stepped down in the last week of November. Caparaso started at Pasco with a 15-6 record and two playoff berths. Over the next two seasons, the Pirates' record dropped to 5-15.
Hodgens has served as an assistant at Wesley Chapel and Chamberlain since leaving Robinson.
