A Tampa man is accused of leaving 16 cats living in filthy conditions in a mobile home. Deputies went to Kenneth Yeager's home at the Carousel Mobile Home Park, 5410 Falkenburg Road, after they received information from someone concerned about Yeager. County Animal Services spokeswoman Marti Ryan said deputies and Animal Services workers braved an ammonia stench to remove the cats. Yeager was charged with 16 counts of animal abuse, Ryan said. Workers took the cats to a shelter. Ryan said it's unlikely they'll be suitable for adoption because they haven't been trained to use litter boxes and many have developed skin diseases and respiratory infections.

Youths questioned in recent robberies

Detectives are interviewing three suspects in connection with a recent string of robberies at Tampa businesses. Devin Letaeveon Smith, 19, Devin Antionne Kelly, 18, and a juvenile, all of Tampa, face charges of grand theft auto after a police chase Thursday morning, said police spokeswoman Andrea Davis. Police are also questioning the men in relation to six recent robberies that targeted business employees carrying bank deposits. Police captured the trio in a stolen car at 32nd and Knollwood streets after a short chase, Davis said.

Citrus officers jail 29 in drug sweep

A monthslong narcotics sting netted nearly 30 street-level drug dealers in Citrus County, the Sheriff's Office reported Thursday. The vice and narcotics unit rounded up 29 residents on various charges of selling, possessing and trafficking mostly cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine. The bulk of the arrests - 13 - came Wednesday, with the rest made in the past 10 days. The investigative operation spanned six to seven months and involved a Florida Department of Law Enforcement narcotics unit and the Crystal River Police Department.

Man stabbed in head with dagger

A Clearwater man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday night after he stabbed another man in the head with a dagger, police said. Because of the incident, Eddie Darie Thompson, 48, also violated a domestic violence injunction he had been served earlier that day, police said. Gerald Hall, 55, was taken to a hospital with wounds to his scalp that were not life-threatening, said Clearwater police spokesman Wayne Shelor. The incident occurred at 3021/2 Vine Ave., where Thompson apparently lived with Hall and Sandra Starkey Browne, who requested the injunction. Hall and Browne appear to have been Thompson's tenants.
