Process begins to fill circuit judge's seat

The circuit's Judicial Nominating Commission is accepting applications for the position. Candidates must be registered voters, members of the Florida Bar for the past five years and residents of the circuit at the time they take office. The commission will screen applicants and send a list of finalists to the governor. Applications are available at www.floridabar.org and from commission chairwoman Lisa Herndon, State Attorney's Office, Citrus County, 110 N Apopka Ave., Inverness, FL 34450. Herndon must receive an original plus nine copies of the completed application (and a photo) by 5 p.m. Jan. 10. Interviews will be Jan. 23 and 24 at the Marion County Judicial Center in Ocala. Kids' wish lists still on angel trees The Christmas Angel Program of Hernando County has wish lists remaining on its Christmas tree at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 1485 Commercial Way. Many of the wish lists are for teenagers, but gifts are still needed for newborns through age 17. There is also a tree at Beall's Department Store, 13190 Cortez Blvd. For information, call 596-1552. Elks seek most valuable students High school seniors may now obtain applications for the Most Valuable Student Scholarship offered by the Elks National Foundation. Applications for the program and the Legacy Awards are available at any Elks lodge. All applications must be returned to the nearest Elks lodge no later than Jan. 12.
