Nigerian nun to begin Hospice Care training

A Nigerian nun, Sister Ann Osheiza Otonoku, will begin training at Hospice of Citrus County today. Sister Ann works in a small Catholic hospital in Gwagwalada, Nigeria. She is one of 730 Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus who care for the sick and shut-in. They also educate children, women, the poor and the disabled. Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness invited Sister Ann to partner with the hospice to learn new skills that she can take back to Nigeria.

CFCC has dates set for spring semester

Central Florida Community College's Citrus campus has announced dates for registration and orientation sessions for the spring semester. They are Wednesday and Jan. 3. The registration sessions will be from 10 a.m. to noon in Building L2-203 and orientation will be from noon to 1 p.m. in the Jerome Multipurpose Room. Students must attend both registration and orientation sessions in order to start classes Jan. 4. The Citrus campus is at 3800 S Lecanto Highway. Boat ramp users told to be cautious

Residents using Citrus County freshwater boat ramps are encouraged to use extra caution while launching their vessels. The Citrus County commission issued the boat ramp advisory Sunday. Because of continued low freshwater levels throughout the Citrus County lakes system, boaters are urged to be cautious when launching and loading.

Art center offers painting workshop

The Art Center of Citrus County is offering a two-day watercolor workshop on the Terry Madden Technique, taught by certified Madden instructor Debra Oliver. The workshop will take place at Whispering Pines Park, 1700 Forest Drive, Inverness, Jan. 13 and 14. The cost is $80 for Art Center members; $90 for nonmembers.
