PLANT CITY - A weekend wreck involving a car and a semitrailer truck on Interstate 4 killed a passenger in the car, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Reg A. Ferrell, 47, died at the scene Saturday, shortly after 4 p.m. just west of County Line Road.

Ferrell was a passenger in a 2007 Saturn driven by Joan E. Stubbs, 47, of 104 Rebecca Lane, Auburndale. Troopers said Stubbs was headed east on I-4 in the center lane, just west of the Polk County line, when she tried to switch lanes and lost control.

Truck driver Traddy D. Kenon, 29, of 8705 Orange Oaks Circle, Tampa, tried to brake when he saw the Saturn begin to spin out of control, but he couldn't avoid the car, troopers said.

Kenon was uninjured.
