Clubs announce students of the month

These are the high school students of the month for October.

Lecanto High School

Lecanto High School and West Citrus Elks Lodge No. 2693 announce the students of the month for October: Taylor Cooke and Matthew Dively.

Taylor, 17, is a three-year member of National Honor Society and was recognized as an AP Scholar. She was named to Lecanto High's Wall of Character Hall of Fame.

Taylor is a four-year member of the cross country, swim and track and field teams. She has been cross country runner of the year and most valuable player of the team; Citrus County Female Athlete of the Year; most valuable player on the swim team and Citrus County swimmer of the year; and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Person of the Year.

Taylor also finds time to help tutor students at the LHS Ninth Grade Academy. Taylor plans to swim at the college level while studying physical therapy or diet. She has a 4.36 weighted graded point average and is the daughter of Stan and Terri Cooke of Homosassa.

Matthew, 18, is a member of Key Club, National Honor Society, LINK Crew, Spanish Club and Florida Future Educators of America. He is enrolled in the Lecanto School of Art and has been named to Who's Who Among American High School Students, the National Society of High School Scholars and National Honor Roll.

Matt received the Distinguished Key Club Treasurer's Award for 2004-2005 and the Distinguished Key Club Member Award for this year.

Matt has participated in the discus and shot put events for the track team and was recognized with "the heart of the track" award. Matt has also served as the varsity football manager.

He has logged more than 175 community service hours by volunteering his time to the Key Training Center, UNICEF, Crest School, Habitat for Humanity, Reading is Fundamental, and St. Timothy Lutheran Vacation Bible School.

Matt plans to attend the University of South Florida and major in biochemistry. He has 3.96 weighted grade point average and is the son of William and Lynn Dively of Homosassa.

Citrus High School

Citrus High School and the Rotary Club of Inverness announce the Rotary seniors of the month for October: Lindsay Law and Bryan Tobin.

Lindsay is a member of the National Honor Society, was a chorus member in ninth through 11th grades and a member of the ensemble group, Breez.

She is involved in drama program and was inducted into the International Thespian Society. She serves as the chairwoman of public relations for CHS drama productions.

Lindsay has had four complete years of professional voice training and played Sandy in the Citrus County Unified High School Theatre Project, Grease. She plans to attend Florida State University to study musical theater to eventually work in theater production or as a performer.

She has a 4.2 weighted grade point average and is the daughter of Jon and Angela Bolin of Inverness and Jeff and Melanie Law of Panama City.

Bryan is a member of A.I.M. (Achievement in Motion), Key Club, the LINK Crew and the Spanish Club. He has been active in varsity football, varsity track and varsity soccer.

Bryan played team soccer for the West Citrus Storm, which won the state championship in the summer of 2005, and placed third nationally. He has coached youth soccer for the past two years and has worked part time for two years at the Inverness Publix.

Bryan is active in both the Seven Rivers Presbyterian Youth Group and in youth activities at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. His plans include attending Florida State University, majoring in business management, and then becoming an owner of his own successful franchise. Bryan is the son of James and Marlene Tobin of Inverness.

Crystal River High School

Crystal River High School and West Citrus Elks Lodge announce the students of the month for October: Andrea Marie Adams and Jarrod Montgomery Green.

Andrea, 17, has been active in student government, the Chemistry Club, National Honor Society, Key Club, Interact and the Academic Team. She is a golfer, has held the top position on the golf team for four years and has been a regional qualifier each of those four years. She is also a distance runner.

Andrea has won several awards for her piano playing at the National Federation Junior Festival. She was selected to attend the National Youth Forum on Medicine in Berkeley, Calif. She has completed 90 hours of community service and hopes to attend the University of Florida and Stanford University medical school with the goal of becoming a cardiovascular surgeon.

Andrea has a 4.520 grade point average and is the daughter of Mary M. Adams.

Jarrod, 18, has worked on the yearbook staff and is currently editor. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Chemistry Club and Link Crew. He has been on the President's Honor Roll, was a science fair winner, was an academic letterman, and won the FCAT Mathematics Award.

He plays soccer and has been on the school team four years, three as varsity letterman, and was listed on the All-County Soccer Team by the Citrus County Chronicle i* 2005-2006.

He has completed more than 100 hours of community service and is considering attending the University of Florida or Florida Atlantic University to major in math.

Jarrod has a 4.40 grade point average and is the son of Jeanne and William Green.
