A few grill Citizens insurance

It was supposed to be a public hearing on how state-run Citizens Property Insurance can improve customer service for its more than 1.3-million policyholders.

But that’s not what the two dozen people who showed up at the St. Petersburg College Epicenter in Largo Tuesday night had on their minds.

Their concerns were about double-digit rate increases, a lack of premium discounts for mitigation, and the fact that only two dozen people showed up.

“The size of this crowd should reflect the feeling of disgust and defeatism on behalf of the public,’’ Peter Damick, 76, a Pinellas Park condo owner, told Citizens officials and state regulators. “A lot of people have just given up.’’

Citizens was ordered by the Florida Cabinet to hold the hearings, despite a drop in complaints. Nine people attended a similar hearing Dec. 14 in Pensacola.

I learned a lot and received some personal attention for my situation that was indeed concerning customer service. Most of the policy holders who spoke up were completely off topic.

Well, if more people would have known about this meeting...instead of last minute as well as if the media would have told the people when and where this meeting was I AM SURE TONS of people would have shown up!

The premium for homeowner's Ins. that Citizen is charging to potential customer is out of control, people are unable to pay for insurance and they are force to sell their properties, when is it going to stop, we should be able to deduct at Tax time.

Sick and tired. It's a losing battle. They are going to do what suits them best. For Pinellas County residents that do not have a mortgage and wish to self insure for windstorm and hail, there are other options! See your independent agent soon!

Going to the meeting is like beating a dead horse with a whip...
