An Atlanta Braves minor league player has been arrested on a charge of criminal mischief. Montague's son is friends with a Plant High teen who bumped one of Evarts' friends off the Plant High baseball team, McElroy said.

Woman's body recovered from pond

Emergency workers pulled the body of a 55-year-old woman from a pond near a migrant camp Monday morning. Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said deputies were alerted by a caller who said he was looking for his girlfriend after a night of drinking and found her dead in the pond near 110 11th Avenue NE. There were no immediate signs of trauma to the woman's body, Carter said. Authorities were awaiting notification of next of kin before releasing the woman's name.

An autopsy will determine the woman's cause of death.

A fingerprint recovered from a broken window led police to arrest two men on burglary charges and recover seven handguns, jewelry, professional sports tickets, collectible coins and a safe, authorities said. Police matched the fingerprint to Craig Noe, 38. After more investigating, they also identified Allen Engel, 34, as a suspect. Noe was arrested Dec. 9 on various charges, including armed burglary. Engel was arrested Dec. 14 on armed burglary and other charges.

LARGO

Man on roadside dies after car hits him

A 52-year-old man who lingered on East Bay Drive after getting out of a car was struck and killed late Sunday, police said. Wiley Rivers, for whom police had no home address, was pronounced dead at Largo Medical Center. About 10:40 p.m., a witness saw a red four-door car heading west on East Bay Drive slow down enough to let Rivers out, said police Sgt. Ryan Dulski. Rivers, who was intoxicated, stayed in the outside lane near Lake Avenue, where he was hit by a Ford Explorer driven by Gregory Anneken, 21, of Largo. Anneken was headed home after getting off work at a nearby Walgreens. No charges were expected.
