Ultimate Tennis' fall league championships were held at Bardmoor Golf and Tennis Club this month with nine women's and 12 men's champs named. Five women's and six men's region winners also were determined. Area players winning were: Donna Dreslin 2.5, Isabelle Blainey (3.5-minus), Carolyn Fricano (3.5), Peter Mosher (4.5-minus), Jimmy Gatza (6.0-minus) and Michael Murray (6.0). Dreslin also won a region title. In April, Dreslin decided to take up tennis. She had worked out all her life and was interested in finding something else to do to keep fit. "I just got sick of working out all the time," she said. "I wanted to find something that would be fun, so I tried tennis. The most fun is the social aspect. Plus it's an easy way to work out. "I was surprised to win, and it was exciting to win it all. That was a great way to top it off." Dreslin plays out of the Southwest Complex in Largo and plans to join the 3.0 division in the spring. Ultimate Tennis is registering for its spring season through Jan. 31 with play scheduled to begin Feb. 17. To register, go to www.ultimatetennis.com or call 347-2522.
