The St. Petersburg Times and Monster said Thursday they plan to launch a cobranded Web site in January that will serve people looking for jobs in the Tampa Bay area and those who advertise here for help wanted.

The partnership between Florida’s largest-circulation newspaper and the online leader in recruitment means that the Times’ Web site, tampabay.com, will have the most comprehensive job site and largest resume database in the area.

For Monster, the joint venture is part of its strategy to reach into local markets and work with prominent media partners to better serve clients.

Monster is the brand of Monster Worldwide Inc., a global online employment information provider based in Maynard, Mass. The St. Petersburg Times is owned by the Times Publishing Co. in St. Petersburg.

The new alliance will replace one between the Times and CareerBuilder.com that expires at the end of this month.

“Consumers have more and more choices today when it comes to looking for the right job — or filling one. We want to simplify the job search process by giving people the tools they need to make smart choices for one of the most important decisions of their lives — their career,” said Christine Montgomery, the Times’ director of electronic publishing.

Tools available on the new Web site will include career advice, resume building, salary information, e-mail job alerts, a local blog about the job market and listings of thousands of jobs.

“Aligning with the St. Petersburg Times will significantly increase Monster’s visibility in the Tampa Bay area as we continue to expand our presence in key markets nationwide,’’ said Peter Newton, Monster senior vice president and general manager.
