Annual father, daughter dance coming soon

Hernando County Parks and Recreation will have its annual Father/Daughter Dance from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 3 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 20428 Cortez Blvd.

Music, snacks and drinks, as well as a complimentary photo, will be provided. Tickets - $7 for fathers and $5 for daughters - go on sale Jan. 5.

BROOKSVILLE

Certification classes for first aid and CPR

Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department will offer the following:

- American Red Cross Certification: adult, infant and child CPR class from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Jan. 17. The cost is $35 for the four-hour class and includes book and face shield. The class does not include first aid certification.

Preregistration and prepayment required.

- American Red Cross Standard First Aid Certification class from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18. The cost is $20. Certification card upon completion of course. Valid for three years.

Both classes will be presented by Linda Christian, certified instructor, and will be held at the community activity center at 205 E Fort Dade Ave.

Hernando High's Class of '76 reunites

The Hernando High School Class of 1976 will celebrate its 30th reunion beginning at noon Dec. 30 at Kennedy Park, 1000 Kennedy Blvd.

The cost is $20 and includes a barbecue and fish fry.

Donate blood and get some holiday treats

As blood donations dwindle during the holiday season, LifeSouth Community Blood Center hopes to increase donations with a weeklong Donor Holiday Party blood drive through Sunday at the center, 12395 Cortez Blvd. Cookies and eggnog will be served. Donors can enter to win a HoneyBaked Ham, and everyone will receive a gift item and a cholesterol screening. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. To donate, you must be at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds and show a valid photo ID. For information, call 596-2002.

Join bird watchers for January events

The Hernando Audubon Society will host the following events in January:

- Bird Walk at Bayport, Jan 6. Those attending are to meet at 7 a.m. at Hardee's at Commercial Way at Cortez Boulevard, Weeki Wachee. This is a coastal trip to observe shorebirds. Call Clay at 592-4949.

- Breakfast and Birds at Ahhochee Hill, 8 a.m. Jan. 13, 24268 Lake Lindsey Road, north of Brooksville. A bird walk will follow breakfast. RSVP to Linda, 754-9436.

- Weeki Wachee Salt Marsh Safari, Jan. 20. This is a strenuous hike into a harsh environment. Heavy shoes and clothing are recommended, as well as plenty of water. RSVP to Clay, 592-4949.

- Birding trip to Phosphate Mines in Polk County, Jan. 24. Those attending are to meet at 8:30 a.m. at the McDonald's on State Road 60 in Mulberry. Reservations required by Jan. 10. Call Shirley, 683-9370.

- Crystal River Boat Cruise, Jan. 26, at the Crystal River Archeological Park.

This event includes a birding hike followed by a boat trip on Heritage Eco cruise to view manatees.
