A BIG WEEKEND FOR FANS OF THE BIG SCREEN

The Christmas weekend is one of the biggest of the year at the movie theaters. Opening today: The History Boys, rated R, which got an A- from a St. Petersburg Times reviewer; The Good Shepherd, rated R, which got a B-; Night at the Museum, rated PG, which got a C; and We Are Marshall, rated PG, which got a C+. Rocky Balboa, the sixth installment in the Rocky series, opened Wednesday to good reviews nationwide; Times film critic Steve Persall gave it an A-. And coming Monday is the much hyped Dreamgirls, starring Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles and a show-stealing Jennifer Hudson. Persall gives it a B.

Delve deep

The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Tampa opens a new exhibit today called Monsters of the Deep, featuring skeletons and replicas of bizarre aquatic creatures of prehistoric times. The museum's IMAX theater will be showing director James Cameron's film Aliens of the Deep, about the incredible creatures living in the deepest part of the ocean. The museum is at 4801 E Fowler Ave., Tampa. (813) 987-6100 or www.mosi.org. Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, including Christmas Day. $19.95 adults, $17.95 seniors and $15.95 ages 2 to 12. Other attractions open Christmas Day include Busch Gardens in Tampa and the Orlando theme parks; Mote Marine Aquarium in Sarasota; and Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park in Homosassa.
