Couples celebrate anniversaries

Audrey L. and Ted Kambiss of Palm Harbor celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a special supper at the Copperhead Restaurant in Innisbrook. They were married Nov. 7, 1946, at St. Demetrios Church in Hammond, Ind.

The Kambisses came here in 1983, after Ted retired as foreman of the street and sanitation department for the city of Hammond.

Audrey was political precinct committeeperson for many years in Hammond, and later served as precinct clerk in Palm Harbor.

They have two sons, Peter John and Thomas, both of Holiday, and two daughters, Kathleen Naumann of Crestview, and Georgia Sroka of Epworth, Iowa; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mary and Jerome "Jerry" Savitsky of Tarpon Springs celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. They were married Oct. 27, 1956, at St. Juliana's Catholic Church in Rock Lake, Pa.

The couple came here in 1973 from Middlesex, N.J., where Jerry worked for Kentile Floors.

Locally Jerry worked as night foreman for the Pinellas County School System, and Mary is a registered nurse and worked at Mease Dunedin Hospital.

They have four children: Jerome of Mount Vernon, Iowa; Margaret of Largo; Maureen of Danville, Pa.; and Patricia of Tarpon Springs; and two grandsons, Joseph and Michael, both of Tampa.

The Savitskys are members of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Largo. Mary enjoys reading and Jerome likes online bingo.

Mary and Lester Heacock of Largo observed their 50th wedding anniversary in November and will celebrate officially on Dec. 30 at the Greenbrook Estates Clubhouse, New Port Richey, at a luncheon party to be hosted by their children, Kelley of New Port Richey, Mark of Clearwater, Timothy of Belleair Bluff, Anthony of Mississippi and Teresa of North Carolina.

They were wed Nov. 24, 1956, in Angola, Ind., and came here in 1978 from Nashville, Mich.

Lester worked for Battle Creek Tile and Mosaic Co., and locally subcontracted for several tile companies. After retiring from that line of work, for the past 15 years he has worked for Pinecrest Place in Largo.

Mary was a homemaker until 1977 and then worked as a site supervisor for the Commission on Aging in Barry County, Mich. Locally she worked with her husband while he was subcontracting, as a temporary service worker and then retired as a food service worker at Largo Middle School after 15 years with the Pinellas County School System.

The Heacocks have five children and eight grandchildren and are members of First Assembly of God Church in Clearwater. Both enjoy gardening, traveling and going to the beach. Lester enjoys fishing, while Mary likes scrapbooking and exercising at the gym.

Peggy and Ralph Brewer of Largo celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their children, who had surprised them with a landscaped backyard. They were married Nov. 17, 1946, in the First Baptist Church of Adairville, Ky.

The Brewers first came here in 1978, moved in 1989 to Arizona and returned here in October 2004 from Sun City, Ariz.

Ralph served in the Army Air Forces and retired in 1978 as general superintendent of manufacturing for Fisher Body Division of General Motors, Columbus, Ohio. Peg is a homemaker.

They have four children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The Brewers are members of Anona United Methodist Church. Ralph is an avid golfer and Peggy enjoys painting and gardening.

Largo firefighter receives promotion

Andrew Dezso of Largo was recently promoted to fire lieutenant after 13 years with the Pinellas Park Fire Department. He received the Paramedic of the Year award in both 1997 and 2004.

Dezso, currently pursuing an associate degree at St. Petersburg College, graduated in 1979 from St. John's Catholic High School in Blackburn, Lancashire, England.

He is the son of John Dezso of Blackburn, and the late Vincenza Dezso, and has a wife, Janis, and two children, Joseph and Andrea.
