Clubs and Organizations

At the December meeting of Families and Friends of Retarded Adults, the group held a drawing for its annual raffle-fundraiser.

Ms. Gail Sturtevant was the lucky winner of the 21-speed Huffy bicycle donated by John and Joan Verity, and Ms. Stephanie Hopper was the lucky winner of the Char-Broil Gas Barbeque donated by Super Wal-Mart of Inverness.

In all, $1,060 was raised by the membership from selling raffle tickets. An additional $1,000 matching grant was donated by Super Wal-Mart of Inverness represented by Larry Gamble, manager, and Gloria Quereux, store coordinator.

The funds will be spent to broaden the various programs offered by the group, with a combined focus on education, training, and workshops for the developmentally disabled.

The organization is a parent and community group with two goals: provide weekly social, creative and community inclusive activities for our children and present monthly educational programs on topics of interest to the developmentally disabled and their families.

Families and Friends of Retarded Adults group can provide information on other groups, agencies and individuals who may offer support to disabled individuals and their families.

Monthly meetings are from 9 to 11 a.m. the second Friday of each month at the Chet Cole Life Enrichment Center of the Key Training Center in Lecanto. Meetings include a short business meeting, followed by an educational speaker and are open to the public.

The weekly workshops provide arts and crafts activities and various other activities to promote educational and social growth, and just plain fun, for our "kids".

For information, call Ron Philips, president, at 382-7819.
