People's Law School will start Jan. 11

CLEARWATER

The first session of the Clearwater Bar Association's annual People's Law School will feature a panel of local judges discussing "The Judicial System from the Judge's Perspective" from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 11 in the teaching auditorium at St. Petersburg College's Clearwater campus, 2465 Drew St.

The People's Law School will meet Thursdays through April. The schedule includes:

- Jan. 18, 7-9 p.m.: How a jury trial really works

- Jan. 25, 7-9 p.m.: Criminal law

- Feb. 1, 7-7:55 p.m.: Condominium law, then from 8:06 to 9 p.m., landlord-tenant law

- Feb. 8, 7-9 p.m.: Independent court system

- Feb. 15, 7-9 p.m.: The Patriot Act

- Feb. 22, 7-9 p.m.: Real estate and real property law

- March 1, 7-9 p.m.: Wills, trusts and estate planning

- March 8, Spring break. No class

- March 15, 7-9 p.m.: Family law

- March 22, 7-7:55 p.m.: Local government law; then from 8:06 to 9 p.m., State of our circuit

- March 29, 7-9 p.m.: Bankruptcy

- April 5, 7-9 p.m.: Construction contracts and mechanic's liens

- April 12, 7-7:55 p.m.: Mediation and arbitration; then from 8:06 to 9 p.m., Small claims court

- April 19, 7-9 p.m.: Contracts and business law

- April 26, 7-7:55 p.m.: Identity theft; then from 8:06 to 9 p.m., Graduation.

Dog show coming to a library near you

Public is invited to weekly peace vigil

Workshop focus will be black and white

Heritage Village, 11909 125th St. N, will serve as a backdrop for students studying black-and-white photography.

Participants will meet from noon to 4 p.m. Jan. 13 and 14. The class will be taught at the Gulf Coast Museum of Art's photography studio, and the shooting will take place at Heritage Village.

Instructor Ric Savid will teach fundamental aspects of black-and-white image-making. The class also will cover the wet-process darkroom and discuss aperture, shutter speed and light. Savid was a St. Petersburg Times reporter before teaching photography.

The workshop fee is $100 per person, with a 10 percent discount for members of the Pinellas County Historical Society and Gulf Coast Museum of Art, and a $15 materials fee.

Participants do not need their own cameras because 35mm cameras will be on loan for the workshop. Call 582-2426.

DUNEDIN

Guided hikes at Honeymoon Island

The Florida Park Service offers ranger-guided walks of Honeymoon Island at 11 a.m. Saturdays through March.

The island is home to wildlife that includes ospreys, great horned owls and gopher tortoises. Walkers should dress for the weather and might want to bring binoculars. Meet the ranger at the head of the nature trail.

The guided hike is free, though park visitors have to pay the regular park entrance fee of $5 per carload from two to eight people, $3 for one person in a car and $1 for walkers or cyclists. Visit www.floridastateparks.org.
