WEST CITRUS

Crystal River Police, the Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol arrested several people late Friday and early Saturday on a variety of charges, including drunken driving. Some arrests stemmed from a special DUI checkpoint that was set up - authorities announced in the media that they were doing this - in front of the Police Department/City Hall building at 123 NW U.S. 19. Other arrests stemmed from traffic stops in West Citrus. According to reports, three people were arrested on DUI charges at the checkpoint; a fourth was booked because he was wanted for violating probation in Brevard County and, authorities say, he possessed drugs and was driving with a suspended license; and a fifth was accused of driving with a suspended license. Traffic stops yielded three DUI arrests; in all three cases, the accused had prior DUIs on their records. Two others were arrested on drug possession charges.
