Josh Guinand finished 89th. Ashly Galante finished 13th.

But that was last year, and following the new year, the two Palm Harbor natives will once again vie for a spot on Team USA in Reno, Nev.

Starting Jan. 6, a handful of local youth talent will travel to the National Bowling Stadium to try to make the team. Chris Grube, Guinand's teammate at Florida State, will be there.

So will South Florida's Chrystal Stutler, from Clearwater.

Shawn Ryan of New Port Richey made the second-day of round robins last year and finished 27th.

Others who will participate include Jason Mersch (Tampa), Jodi Moores and Shannon Profit (Dunedin), and Terrance Reeves (Valrico).

For eight male and eight female bowlers each year, success at the USBC Team USA Trials means realizing a dream. The top four men and women in their respective divisions at the USBC Team USA Trials earn Team USA berths for that year, and four additional men and women will receive at-large selections from the National Selection Committee after the competition.

Competitors roll 40 games over four days to determine who makes Team USA. First place in the men's and women's divisions are crowned U.S. Amateur champions.

Members of Team USA compete in events such as the World Tenpin Bowling Association's world and American Zone championships, the World Games, the World Cup and the Lee Evans Tournament of the Americas among others.

ANOTHER 900: The USBC received notification of a 900 series bowled Dec. 21 in Milwaukee. If approved, it will be the third 900 in the Milwaukee area and 12th in the nation. P.J. Giesfeldt, 24, rolled his three consecutive 300 games in the Men's 950 Handicap League at Milwaukee's Burnham Bowl. If approved, Giesfeldt would join Tony Roventini, who had 900 on Nov. 9, 1998, and Mark Wukoman, who rolled 900 last April 22, both at Classic Lanes in Greenfield.
