Pinellas Judge Crockett Farnell made headlines when he charged Lucy Hadi of the Department of Children and Families with contempt. He is retiring after 24 years on the bench.

What is on your nightstand?

I don't have a nightstand. I have what my wife calls a cigar room, and in it I have stacks and stacks of books. One of the first things I'll do when I retire is organize the room. That being said, night before last I finished Tom Clancy's Teeth of the Tiger. It wasn't his best. He ran out of things to write about, I think.

Is there a book in your cigar room that you recommend?

Yes. Cobra II: The Inside Story of the Invasion and Occupation of Iraq by Michael Gordon and Bernard Trainor. It's incredibly well-written.

What book inspired your career?

To Kill a Mockingbird definitely inspired me early on because of Atticus Finch and his devotion to seeking justice.
