Lauren Baras of St. Petersburg, daughter of David and Mary Jo Baras, graduated cum laude from the University of Florida with a bachelor's degree in religion.

Baras was initiated into the University of Florida's chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School's I.B. program in 2002.

Baras also has run eight marathons, including the New York City Marathon.

Currently, she is working with the Ameri Corp. in Barstow, Calif., where she is participating in desert restoration with the Bureau of Land management.

Baras plans to pursue an education in medical school.
