Driver dies in one-car crash

Deputies are investigating a fatal traffic crash Saturday afternoon in northwest Hillsborough County. Deputies say John Stephens, 80, of 13815 Nice Lane in Odessa was driving north on Race Track Road near Infields Drive when he slumped over the steering wheel and left the road. Stephens was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital, where he died.

Gunmen rob store off Interstate 75

Pasco County sheriff's deputies are looking for two gunmen who robbed Four Star Fuel Depot on State Road 52 near Interstate 75 on Saturday, according to reports. One robber, armed with a black handgun, removed cash and checks from a register, then removed the entire cash drawer of another register.

Church vandalism costs $20,000

Vandals trashed four statues at a Spring Hill church over the weekend, causing $20,000 in damage. The vandalism happened at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd., between 10 p.m. on Dec. 29 and 8 a.m. the next morning, the Sheriff's Office said.

Man accused of sexual battery

A 23-year-old Tampa man faces charges of sexual battery after deputies say he forced an ex-girlfriend to have sex, tried to stab her in the stomach and then cut her throat with a kitchen knife. Isaiah F. Gratton of 8412 Chevalier Ave. faces charges of aggravated battery, sexual battery and battery, jail records show. He was held without bail.
